1st SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION OF THE POLISH SALT MINING ASSOCIATION: DEAD SEA 2006<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The purpose of the Scientific Expedition of the Polish Salt Mining Association (May 27-June 4, 2006; 14 people) was the Dead Sea region in Israel, where the participants of the expedition studied: (a) the conditions and forms of contemporary salt accumulation,
(b) methods of its industrial extraction in the course of natural evaporation and
(c) they became acquainted with the education and construction style of the exposed parts of the salt dome.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0Sodom and its caps. During the study of the Dead Sea, observations of the geology and formation of sediments along the western shore of the reservoir were carried out. Forms of salt karst (suberosion sinkholes) were also observed. An additional success of the expedition was the study of unique, \"concretionary\" forms of salt accumulation, for which suggestions regarding the mechanism of formation were presented.<\/span><\/p>

As part of the statutory activities of the Polish Salt Mining Association, a scientific and cognitive expedition to the Dead Sea region was organized from 27.05 to 04.06. 2006. The participants of the expedition were members of the Association representing scientific centers (AGH - Krak\u00f3w, University of Wroc\u0142aw, PIG Warsaw), research and scientific centers (OBRGSChem \"Chemkop\" Krak\u00f3w) and mining plants (KS \"K\u0142odawa\", KGHM Metraco) and state institutions (Ministry of Economy, Industrial Development Agency) related to salt mining.<\/p>

-familiarization with the conditions and forms of modern evaporite sedimentation,\n

The base of the expedition was established in Taba (Egypt) near the port of Elijat in the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea, from where optional trips to the Dead Sea (Israel) and to Egypt were organized.<\/p>

During research work on the Martwy Mt, preliminary geological observations were carried out, combined with sampling of sediments and brines on the western shore of the reservoir. 3 sites were selected for research on the morphology, tectonics, stratigraphy and mineralogy of salt deposits: Har Sedom in the south and Neve Zohar and En Gedi in the central part of the coast.
