The topic of the symposium was "On-board salt deposits in Poland" in reference to the experience gained during 25 years of mining activity in the salt deposit at OZG Polkowice-Sieroszowice. The organizers of the Symposium were the Polish Salt Mining Association and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. In addition to the Organizers, the Meeting was sponsored by Inowrocławskie Kopalnie Soli Solino S.A. and the Kłodawa Salt Mine S.A. Germany, K+G, DEEP, DMT GmbH..

23 papers were presented in 3 conference sessions. On the second day of the conference there was a mining trip to OZG Polkowice-Sieroszowice, during which the participants got acquainted with the problems of the salt mine. In accordance with the Statute of the Polish Salt Mining Association, the General Meeting of PSGS Members was held.

The main theme of the conference was the presentation of the state of research and documentation of seabed salt deposits in Poland, with particular emphasis on rock salt deposits in the Lubin-Głogów Copper District. This subject was extended to the issue of salt exploitation in OZG Polkowice-Sieroszowice.

In addition, the papers and discussion also covered the following issues: mechanics of the salt rock mass, the use of geophysical methods in the study of salt deposits, the use of salt caverns for gas storage and the construction of seabed salt deposits in other regions, including the Soligorsk region in Belarus and the Zbudza deposit in Slovakia.

The issues raised in the papers, discussions during conference sessions and conclusions submitted by the participants of the Meeting lead to the formulation of the following postulates:

The on-board salt deposits of the Lower Silesia region and the Bay of Puck are a prospective region for 1) obtaining the raw material, 2) building underground fuel storage facilities and 3) storing waste. For this reason, further exploration and development of these deposits should be the subject of the State's economic policy.

The participants of the Conference express their thanks to the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. for help in organizing the Meeting, substantive contribution to the preparation of numerous papers and involvement in discussions.

Agnieszka Maj, Jacek Wachowiak

Quo Vadis Sal 2006 - Conference materials

XI Sympozjum Solne odbyło się w dniach 9-10 listopada 2006 r. w Szklarskiej Porębie.
