XIV International Salt Symposium Quo Vadis Sal 2009 – Energy Security of Poland

On October 8-9, 2009, the 14th International Salt Symposium entitled "Quo Vadis Sal" was held in Jelitkowo near Gdańsk, organized by the Polish Salt Mining Association together with the Polish Geological Institute. The leading theme of the symposium was: POLAND'S ENERGY SECURITY: Storage of fuels and safe storage in rock salt deposits (prospects for the Gdańsk region).

and the presented issues concerned: 

1) State policy regarding the construction of fuel storage facilities and landfills in salt structures as an element of energy security;

2) Salt deposits in the area of the Gulf of Gdańsk as convenient geological objects for the construction of fuel warehouses and safe landfills; 

3) Construction and operation of warehouses and landfills in rock salt deposits;

4) Impact of underground leaching on the environment - truths and fictions;

5) Spatial modeling and visualization techniques in geology and salt mining.

The symposium was held under the patronage of the Minister of Economy, Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak and the Chief National Geologist, Dr. Jacek Henryk Jezierski.
